The New Jersey Devils went into Philadelphia down one game and were missing Ilya Kovalchuk,so the outlook seemed pretty grim.
However, everyone thought that the Devils were in trouble but the Devils as they hung around for two periods and trailed by only one goal going into the final period.
But then (Howard Cosell voice here),the Devils put four goals on the board for a 4-1 win that silenced the Philly crowd as the series shifts to the Rock tomorrow night with the series tied at one.
New Jersey goals to Adam Larsson,David Clarkson,Travis Zajac and Bryce Salvador (empty net).
Sorry that this is going up so late, lots of things to do earlier today as in errands and the Rome Braves at the Muni along with work-made this go up far later than normal....
Hell Raisers
1) I thought that this was going to be a good effort, but wondered if they were going to beat a sharp Ilya Brizgalov after two periods, but wow-what a final stanza!
The Devils suddenly started creating by crashing the net and sharp passing inside the Flyer zone and a huge win followed....
2) Adam Larsson played his first playoff game and not only scored the first goal, but played very well on defense.
Larry Robinson has worked with Larsson extensively since his less than strong return following an injury,
The work has apparently paid off as Larsson had an excellent game....
3) The Ilya Kovalchuk injury forced Peter Harrold to right wing on the lower line and that did not seem to be working.
It was not a lack of effort on Harrold's part, but it sure seems that he was out of place.
The Devils have recalled Tim Sestito for game three as the Devils must have seen some of the same things...
4) Give the credit to the Devils penalty killing as the PK group killed off all five Philadelphia power plays against the team that scored 12 power play goals in their first round series.
That was the difference in my opinion...
5)Very nice to see David Clarkson get back to his game, which had been missing a little roughness in the postseason.
I can understand why the players can get a little gunshy with the tighter officiating, but Clarkson has started to overcome things and return to what he does best.
