Browns sign Diontae Johnson

Facing the 2025 season with exactly zero additions to a wide receiver room that will remind no one of Air Coryell, the Cleveland Browns finally did something, even if it is uninspiring.

Cleveland signed veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who spent time with three teams in 2024. If this is all that Andrew Berry has to upgrade the weapons for whoever quarterbacks the team in 2025, it will be a long season.

The 5'10 Johnson was obtained by Carolina from Pittsburgh for cornerback Donte Jackson and a fifth-round pick before the 2024 draft and caught thirty passes for three hundred fifty-seven yards and three touchdowns in seven games as a Panther.

Carolina traded Johnson and a sixth-round pick to Baltimore for a fifth rounder, where he caught one pass for six yards in four games, before being released by the Ravens.

Johnson missed one game in Baltimore when he was suspended for refusing to enter the game.

Houston claimed him off waivers, and Johnson caught two passes for twelve yards in his only game as a Texan.

Johnson's best days came with Pittsburgh, which drafted him in the third round in 2019 from Toledo, catching 391 passes in his five seasons with the Steelers, 107 in 2021 when Johnson made his only Pro Bowl.

Johnson turns twenty-nine during training camp, and after a season that saw Johnson waived twice, suspended for a game, and a decline in play, it's fair to wonder what Johnson will have remaining to help a Browns receiving corps in desperate need.

I'm not against Johnson receiving a chance, but I wouldn't count on him producing the help that the Browns need, and if he is the only move that Andrew Berry has in mind to improve the receiver room, then the Browns are in deep waters.
