Ian Snell dropped behind 3-0 after 3 batters, but was dominant thereafter and used two run homers from Adam LaRoche (11) and Ryan Doumit (5) to lead the Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Brewers.
Snell improved to 7-5 with his eight inning stint, while Matt Capps grabbed his 8th save with a scoreless ninth.
The remaining RBI went to Jose Bautista.
As hard as it is for me to say,I am somewhat pleased with the Bucs rotation for now.
Paul Maholm has pitched very well in his last 4 starts,IF he can keep that up,the rotation looks better.
But with his fringe stuff,he needs to be near perfect every night and that is a tough pitcher to count on every start.
The Buccos finish the Brewer series today at 12;35.
Meanwhile the Tribe fell to the Tigers 6-4 in Detroit.
Jake Westbrook dropped to 1-4 after a 5 runs in 6 inning outing.
Should be a good finale though-C.C. Sabathia vs Justin Verlander.
Pitching Matchups
Milwaukee: Ben Sheets (10-3) at Pittsburgh: Tom Gorzelanny (8-4) 12;35
Cleveland: C.C. Sabathia (12-2) at Detroit:Justin Verlander (9-3) 1;05
Bullpen Notes
Couple of good reads to recommend.
A great article on one of my favorite footballers of all time-Conrad Dobler.
Shows what some of the players from the past go through every day pain wise.
Another good read from our newest member on the links page-Woodens world of baseball.
The article at the top deals with the Potomac Nationals, but I was intrigued by the post at the bottom on Forced Patriotism.
Well worth the read whether you agree with the position or not.
And a final read on one of the two Pirate prospects that seems to have a chance to be an future impact Buc from the Post-gazette on Neil Walker.
Finally,is there a bigger waste of time and food than these competitive eating fools??
I was drug into watching this mess yesterday and I yearn for the wasted 30 mins back!
These gluttons are athletes only in words.
And the announcers are worse.
The one moron said the winner was "courageous" and his win was "greatest win in American Sports history".
Gotta run.
Back later with last nights Suns game and more.

I am very disappointed that you didn't even acknowledge the inspiring victory of Great American Joey Chestnut in bringing the Hot Dog Eating Title back to where it belongs. It only seems appropriate that the USA be the home of the world's top glutton.
