Zach Parise scored a goal in each period in his first career hat trick and Brian Gionta added another as the New Jersey Devils won their 6th game in a row with a 4-0 pasting of the Montreal Canadiens.
The game was never really in doubt as the Devils were able to dominate on both ends of the ice and took advantage of a seemingly leg-weary Canadien squad.
Parise's goals were his 10th,11th and 12th of the season, while Gionta's goal was his 9th of the year.
Parise's 2nd and 3rd period goals were scored on the power play as was Gionta's.
Marty Brodeur knocked away all 27 shots by Montreal in moving into a tie for 2nd on the all time shutout list.
A special note to Karel Rachunek.
Rachunek has been uneven thus far this season, but had a excellent effort in last night's game.
Great effort by the Devils in dominating a pretty good Montreal team.
New Jersey returns to action Sunday vs the Atlanta Thrashers.
Bullpen Notes
As expensive as nice hats are these days,I dont think that I would be tossing my hat onto the ice no matter the reason.
Of course with the cost of attending NHL games,I dont think that I will have that opportunity any time soon!
We like the trade that the Nationals pulled off yesterday in obtaining the talented
Lastings Milledge for journeymen Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.
We missed Milledge by a year in Hagerstown as his SAL season was the year before the Mets two year stint in the Hub City, but his all around talent makes this well worth the minor cost.
I understand the feelings of Washington fans on losing fan favorites, but neither were going to be around when the Nats become contenders.
Today,we are huge fans of the Pittsburgh Panthers and Oklahoma Sooners.
I dont think Pitt has much of a chance of defeating West Virginia, but I think Oklahoma has an excellent chance of repeating their earlier win over Missouri.
A win by either team will likely put Ohio State in the national title picture.
Sorry,so short.
Long night at work last night and a longer one tonight.
Until next time.
