Boxing Challenge

The Boxing Challenge rolls on with five bouts this week!

I lead R.L.Malpica by one point at 81-80,but things could change with five bouts and some differences in picks....

The PBC debuts on ESPN with Keith Thurman facing Luis Collazo.
Ramon Malpica loves Thurman and raved about him in one of his recent blogs, but I've been impressed and have yet to be truly won over.
Many think Thurman is the future of the 147 pound division, but I can't get his lousy effort vs Leonard Bungu and inability to get rid of Robert Guerrero, who followed up his fight against Thurman with a life and death split decision win over a clubfighter out of my mind.
Luis Collazo was a champion years ago,but is coming off a lopsided loss to Amir Khan and will likely produce a less than entertaining fight.
If Thurman can get Collazo out early,it would go a long way towards impressing me.

I'm more excited about the co-feature as Kronk 154 pounder Tony Harrison, who has looked good against limited competition, against his toughest test in Willie Nelson, who is a solid contender but coming a loss to one of my least favorites in Vanes Martiroysan,
Harrison could be a future champion and if Nelson chooses to engage, this could be a fun fight....

HBO Latino has a matchup of two hard luck junior welterweights that provide good action and have both dropped their share of decisions that could have gone their way.
Mauricio Herrera defeated both Danny Garcia and Jose Benavidez and lost both fights while Hank Lundy produces action fights and recently lost a split decision to Thomas Dulorme that could have went either way,
This could be a good bout and the winner has some options available to them in the division...

Two untelevised bouts in the U.S. finish the week as the best bout of the weekend comes from the Phillipines as long time WBO Lt.Flyweight champ Donnie Nietes defends against former unified strawweight champ Francisco Rodriguez.
Nietes has been an action fighter (if you look him on youtube) while Rodriguez produced one of the fights of the year when he unified his two belts.
You either have to live outside the US or get Be In sports Espanol' to see this, but I'm sure someone will upload on youtube....

The WBO fills its vacant lightweight title in England as Ricky Hatton protege Terry Flanagan hosts Jose Zepeda in a battle of two undefeated fighters.
Zepeda is a reputed crunching puncher while Flanagan is less powerful with just 10 KO's in his 27 wins....
