Buckeyes blast Maryland 73-14

The Maryland Terrapins took the Ohio State Buckeyes to the final play of overtime before their 2018 game was decided.
The 2019 version was decided as fast as the first drive as Ohio State led 42-0 at the half and stretched the lead to 52-0 before Maryland scored before adding more to the final score of 73-14.

Justin Fields threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, while J.K. Dobbins and Demario McCall ran for two touchdowns apiece.
Master Teague ran for 111 yards to lead a ground game that rushed for 383 yards on the afternoon.
Ohio State improves to 9-0 overall and with the loss by Penn State to Minnesota, the Buckeyes 6-0 record is now good for first place all alone in the Big Ten East.

Olentangy Offerings

1) On the docket to start, you have to talk about the loss of Chase Young, who has been temporarily suspended for accepting a loan from a family friend to help his girlfriend attend last season's Rose Bowl.
Young claims that he has repaid the loan and even if Young has repaid it, he can still be suspended for up to four games, although Ohio State is appealing for a shorter punishment considering the circumstances.

2) Ryan Day apparently remembered the Maryland game from last season as he didn't let off the gas as shown with a late first-half onside kick that saw Blake Haubeil pop the ball up and allow his receiver (Chris Olave) to catch it like a baseball infielder.
Not only a good call, an excellent kick by Haubeil.

3) Maryland running back Anthony McFarland ran for 298 yards against Ohio State last year.
On this day? Seven.

4) Rumors were flying during the game that Maryland had tipped off the NCAA about the Chase Young situation.
I'm not sure I buy that, even with Young being from the area, as it sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory to me.
BUT I will add this- IF that would prove to be true, the Terrapins might get a steady diet of crushings such as this one for a long time.

5) Ohio State did sit all of their offensive starters for the entire second half and I've looked for more of that all season.
With a lead such as that, there is no reason to play your starters and risk injury.

I'm cutting this short because I have other things to write and I was tired after work, so I went to bed at halftime.
I'll have a note on another announcement by OSU in this weeks' "I tell ya' Herbie".
