After a 103-833 loss that saw starter Darius Garland unable to play due to a shoulder strain, the game had barely started and Dante Exum was finished with a calf strain that seemed like it would keep him out of the lineup for a while.
It got worse as Exum was announced as suffering a right calf strain that would keep Exum off the floor for one to two months.
The loss of Exum, who normally plays at the point, but was filling in for the injured Isaac Okoro at the small forward position, comes at an awful time for the 4-3, but wobbling with health woes, Cavaliers.
Cleveland expects to possibly Isaac Okoro tomorrow in Orlando for the latter half of the pair of games against the Magic, but Cleveland still has manpower questions for the near future.
Kevin Love and now Dante Exum should be out for at least a month or more with calf injuries, Dylan Windler's broken hand should keep him out for close to the end of January, Darius Garland's shoulder has him listed as out against the Magic Wednesday and Matthew Dellavedova remains sidelined with concussion issues.
And Cleveland is missing Kevin Porter for whatever they are working with his "personal issues" that any type of time frame for a return hasn't even been hinted at, so you have a team off to a surprising start with concerns about sustainability because of depth that was questioned at one hundred percent, let alone with a rash of injuries.
There isn't an answer out there to replace the Cavalier's injured starters and even if there were such an available player that could solve these issues, he likely would have many teams rated above Cleveland as a destination.
Injuries are a part of all sports and teams always have to deal with them, but I would like to see the scales even out a bit once some of these players return.
J.B. Bickerstaff seems to have this team buying into his system and what he is preaching to them.
It would be advantageous to the franchise for the Cavaliers to be able to evaluate what they have and what they'll need next year and they can only do so with the ability to see these players play together for a prolonged period of time.
