Boxing Challenge

Tonight's ESPN card from Fresno California has the makings of a very entertaining affair with the junior welterweight main event pitting a pair of former world champions as former WBC and WBO champion Jose Ramirez returns for the first time since his title unification loss to Josh Taylor.

Ramirez's opponent is no slouch in former IBF junior lightweight and WBO lightweight titleholder Jose Pedraza and the winner will almost certainly move into line for one of the titles that Taylor promised to vacate following his controversial win over Jack Catterall last month.

Ramirez fought Taylor very closely with the official scorecards all scoring the fight even in rounds but Taylor's two knockdowns made the difference in deciding the fight.

Pedraza is taller and more of a boxer but has been known to slug it out when needed and Pedraza has been known to surprise in the past when as the underdog Pedraza upset Ray Beltran to win the WBO title at 135 pounds.

The two combatants' styles should mesh very well together and I expect this to be an excellent matchup.

The co-feature will be a crossroads fight at featherweight as Joet Gonzalez will face Jeo Santisima in a battle of former title challengers in need of a quality victory.

Both fighters have lost to WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete, Gonzalez in his last fight via unanimous decision, Santisima losing with eleventh round TKO when Navarrete held the WBO junior featherweight title.

Gonzalez has fought the better opposition, holds a win over long-time contender Miguel Marriaga, and is the natural featherweight but Santisima has knocked out eighteen opponents in his twenty-one wins, so Santisima could be the heavier hitter.

This could be a very brutal battle with plenty of punches thrown and landed.

My time is short today, so I will do the preview of the Saturday DAZN card tomorrow.
