Devils sweep up the Leafs 4-1

The New Jersey were able to get an early lead and continue to add to in pulling away in the third period to a 4-1 win in Toronto over the Maple Leafs.
Zach Parise scored the first and last goals of the contest in a badly needed game to lead the offense that looked to be bouncing back for at least the time being.
Parise's goal(26) in the first period was the only goal in the stanza and a Brian Gionta power play goal early in the second looked to have the Leafs reeling, but a Toronto goal later in the second sent the game into intermission at just 2-1.
But the Devils dominated the game in Round 3,pushing Toronto over the ice, controlling both ends of the ice and most importantly scoring the only two goals of the period.
David Clarkson flipped a shot over the left shoulder of Vesa Toskala for his 8th goal of the season that pretty much put the two points in the sack for the evening.
When Clarkson is on his game, his game is so fan friendly and fun to watch and here is hoping that Devils fans get to see him for a long time to come!.
Parise finished the scoring 91 seconds later with his 27th of the season for a 4-1 win.
A big and needed win to keep the Devils in the Atlantic Division race and for about 6 minutes put the Devils back in first place.
The Pittsburgh Penguins then finished off their win in Tampa and leapfrogged the Devils again to lead by one point.
Full disclosure,I missed the first period of the game, which is why that is not as detailed.
Get ready for that for the next 5 Tuesdays as I am participating in a Volleyball class with Rachel.
The Devils return home to the Rock for a Friday game against Tampa and then return to Toronto for another encounter against the Leafs on Saturday.....

Devils Pitchforks
Gold:Zach Parise-2 goals
Silver:Marty Brodeur-another solid game
Bronze:David Clarkson-goal

Bullpen Notes

Sorry for the lack of pictures from the game, but all the usual sites had only pro-Toronto pics and since the Devils WON the game-I wanted something that would represent the game more.

Check out our friends at Nationals Farm Authority for their possible rosters for Hagerstown and Potomac this year.
The Suns (by their projections) will get Stephen King back, but no other returnees.
But it could be a fun year here as power hitting prospect Michael Burgess should be assigned here as well as 2006 and 2007 first round selections Colten Willems and Josh Smoker to help the pitching staff.

Potomac has plenty of former Suns, most notably Chris Marrero ( I think that he might start in Harrisburg though) and our favorites Erik Arnesen and Cory Van Allen.

The Seattle Seahawks finally signed a few players from the free agency pool and I would say that they are definitely interesting and could be helpful.
Former Carolina guard Mike Wahle joins the offensive line to try improve the once golden and now tarnished running game.
The former Pro Bowler will attempt to help the Seahawks fill the massive hole that was left by Steve Hutchinson in 2006 for the 3rd season in a row.
That one player personnel move has been the difference between a Super Bowl team and a playoff team and do not let anyone tell you differently.
Power back T.J. Duckett has been brought in from Detroit to try to cure short yardage woes.
I am not sure if he is the answer, but considering the problems I cannot blame them for trying.
Jeb Putzier signed from the Texans and the finesse' tight end looks to be a good fit in a Mike Holmgren offense as long as a blocking tight end is signed in tandem with Putzier.
Putzier had a good season in Denver, but was plagued by injuries during a two year term in Houston.

And finally, cannot say that I was surprised by the Hillary Clinton wins in Ohio and Texas.
I said yesterday that I saw wins for her in both states, but Clinton would not have a large enough margin of victory to really make a huge gain in delegates on leader Barack Obama.
This whole scenario is getting worse and worse for Democrats when you consider that John McCain locked his nomination up last night and can start rolling his fall campaign starting now!
While the Democratic twosome continues to play Badminton over the nomination.

I plan on being back later today with a bonus post talking about Brett Favre's retirement and of course-Bullpen Notes
