Last of the old time passers

Brett Favre's retirement marked the end of a grand time period for the NFL.
Brett Favre was not a system QB or a cool automaton,he played the game the way it is meant to be played and watched-with free wheeling abandon.
Favre was not always the most accurate passer or the greatest game manager (although few were better at the games end),but that was part of what made Favre the player that he was.
One rarely knew what to expect from a Brett Favre decision once the ball was snapped, but it was always going to be something exciting.
Sometimes a great pass, sometimes a reckless decision and often times both-Brett Favre was the last of the throwback quarterbacks.
Unafraid to take a hit,run the ball or take a chance-I think Favre could have played in any era and driven any coach to frustrations and thrills.
The stars of today are not Brett Favres for sure, not to say better or worse but certainly different.
Peyton Manning doesnt take the chances of Favre,Tom Brady does not seem to enjoy the game that Favre did and few can compare to his arm strength.
The records that Favre owns are all impressive, but the most remarkable one is the consecutive starts record.
Give Cal Ripken credit for his streak in Baseball, but the Favre record is almost unbreakable when you consider the punishment that the position requires.
Some may say that Favre only won one world title, but when you look at the surrounding talent that is not surprising.
Only Sterling Sharpe in the Favre years was a top notch talent and for proof- look at the players that caught Favre passes and looked like stars and then moved elsewhere and watched their status fall.-Robert Brooks,Antonio Freeman,Javon Walker etc..
Favre always seemed to me to be the "people's QB",just a regular guy that was blessed with a strong arm and otherwise could be no different than the average guy.
I can see Favre doing TV work, but I can just as easily see him being happy watching games on TV as well.
Brett Favre- certainly a Hall of Famer and will be long remembered for his contributions to the Packers and the game.

Bullpen Notes

Gary Bettman says that an outdoor game is in the future for the Blackhawks,Chicago and likely Wrigley Field.
I am all for Chicago getting a game, but bet on New York getting next years game as the final event at soon to be demolished Yankee Stadium.

Battlin Bob sends us this link with the news of a Family Guy spinoff starring FG regular "Cleveland Brown".
Not sure if "Cleveland" can carry a show as the main character, but will certainly give the show a chance.

Ryan sends us this link on the passing of the creator of Dungeons and Dragons Gary Gygax at 69.
I never played the game, although I certainly like board games and I am plenty "geeky" enough to.
The things that makes me laugh when I think of D and D is the live action game of it held locally at the City Park here on Sundays.
I have to get some video footage to post here,as it has to be seen to be believed.

Great article in the New York Times on the Senate constantly rolling over for big Oil companies.
Tax credits that would have been given to "clean " energy producers were approved by the House, but taken out by the Senate.
Ridiculous.

Until tomorrow

Gary rolled 1d6 for a +5 resurrection spell, but suffered a critical miss.

It scares the hell out of me that you even know that much!
