Can't anyone on this team throw strikes??
This will be a two post day today,so look for another post in the evening.
The struggling starters of the Pittsburgh Pirates continued to have trouble finding the strike zone and when you have problems throwing strikes-trouble usually follows and it did in a 4-3 loss to the Cubs.
Phil Dumatrait walked seven in less than five innings and deservedly was the loser (1-2) in a very winnable game for Pittsburgh.
Adam LaRoche staked the Bucs to a 2-0 lead in the first with a two run homer (5) in the first, but Dumatrait could not keep it as each of the Cubs four runs were scored by runners that had been given free passes by Dumatrait.
LaRoche singled in the Pirate 6th to cut the lead to one run,but the Pirates would get no closer than that.
LaRoche continues his annual May thawing of the bat and finished with all three Pirate RBI's for the day.
Dumatrait and Tom Gorzelanny have shown control problems throughout the season and Ian Snell has even shown them on occasion,so the starters need to quit putting runners on freebies and Jeff Andrews needs to start attempting to address this.
I mean, most teams 5th starters are weak and I dont expect much from Dumatrait, but at least put the ball over the plate!
The Pirates are off today and return to action at home tomorrow against the Brewers.
Bullpen Notes
Jack Wilson continues his rehab assignment as he moves to Altoona for a few games after spending time last week with Indianapolis.
If everything works out,Wilson could be with the team sometime next week.
Brad Lincoln's debut for the Hickory Crawdads was a successful one as he picked up the victory over the Rome Braves in Rome on Sunday.,
Lincoln allowed just 1 run and 4 hits over 5 innings to go with his 3 strikeouts and no walks.
Back later with another post.
