Devils sizzle on Long Island!

The sudden offensive upswing of the New Jersey Devils continued as four second period goals allowed the Devils to cruise to a 6-1 win over the New York Islanders at the beautiful Nassau Coliseum.
The biggest goal was the 700th goal of Jaromir Jagr's career, which proved to be the game winner, although it was the 19th of his Devils stint.
Other Devils goals to Adam Henrique (17 power play),Marek Zidlicky (9 power play),Eric Gelinas (7 power play),Ryane Clowe (5 power play) and Mark Fayne (3).
The Devils will return home to the Rock today for a three o'clock afternoon game as they host the San Jose Sharks.

Hell Raisers

1) The story from this one is Jaromir Jagr scoring his 700th goal.
Jagr's shot flicked off an Islander skate and into the net and was more typical of the older Jagr than the high flyer.
Jagr has been a pleasant surprise to me this season and more than expected.

2) The other story?
Could this have been the final start (and win) for Martin Brodeur as a Devil?
Brodeur was pretty basic (18 saves, but some first period saves were special) in gaining another win,but he was more than enough to secure this win.
MSG belabored the point again and again on Brodeur's status and it is something to watch over the next few days, but it was a bit overbearing.
Then again,so is Deb Placey,so never mind.

3) Adam Henrique continued his scoring streak with a power play from his knees.
The "most handsome man alive" (Rachel's opinion, not mine :) ) has been very effective of late to the point of me being ready to give him some credit for his scoring and not his effect on ladies.
Almost :)

4) Four power play goals!?
Well, some of that might have been the competition that seems to have thrown in the towel after their loss of John Tavares, but it was still a nice thing to see.

5) Travis Hamonic of the Islanders seemed to channel his inner Ogie Oglethorpe as he seemed to want to fight the entire Devils team, instigated two fights, was thrown from the game and earned a one game suspension,
Way to go,Travis!

6) These two wins are nice and does the job of keeping the Devils in the race (three points out of the playoffs),but the next two games will go a long way in deciding what the Devils do at the deadline on Wednesday.
Win them both at home (Sharks and Red Wings) and I bet Lou Lamoriello makes an addition.
Lose em both and the Devils might be sellers.
Split and who knows.

7) A special note to Miika in Finland.
Rachel missed the game (a huge rarity) and waited to watch the game on tape.
As she is watching the game,Miika sends her a message on the result and score.
A furious Rachel just might have whipped up on him.
If we lived in Helsinki.
Don't get in front of this woman and mess with her Henrique!

Back later with our first boxing challenge update and the Devils vs the Sharks.
