John Dorsey's Friday Trifecta was completed with a trade with the Green Bay Packers as the Cleveland Browns traded quarterback DeShone Kizer and their fourth and fifth-round (101 and 138) draft picks in exchange for cornerback Damarious Randall and the fourth and fifth rounders (114 and 150) held by the Packers.
DeShone Kizer didn't really receive a fair shake in his one year in Cleveland after being drafted in the second round in the 2017 draft.
Kizer's issues at Notre Dame were centered around his accuracy as a passer and needed time to learn before being tossed into the lineup to play.
Sashi Brown's decision to jettison Brock Osweiler and Josh McCown took away any chance for a veteran to bide time for Kizer and forced him not only into the lineup but without any type of veteran on the bench to help him deal with the inevitable issues that all rookie passers deal with the league.
Add those problems to the inept playcalling and apparent inability to relate to the supposed "Quarterback Whisperer" Hue Jackson and Kizer was set up to fail and yet I thought that he handled the situation with more class than you would expect for a player that didn't turn 22 until the conclusion of the season.
DeShone Kizer was one of many failed Cleveland quarterback trials, but you can make an argument that with the exception of Tim Couch, Kizer was the most mismanaged and given the least amount of tools to attempt to succeed with.
I wish Kizer well in Green Bay, where he'll sit and learn behind Aaron Rodgers and hopefully the messy season that he played in Cleveland won't ruin his career.
Damarious Randall might be best remembered for his shutdown of Josh Gordon in the second half and overtime last season in Green Bay's game in Cleveland and his postgame tweets to Gordon going back and forth, but he seems to be a solid enough corner.
Randall turns 26 in August, started 12 games last year for Green Bay and intercepted ten passes in his three years as a Packer after being their first-round pick in 2015.
Normally, this is where I would be looking for Ryan to ask what his opinion is of Randall, but he was unavailable for comment.
I'll try to get a few words for you from him next time that I can speak to him, but instead, I went to Acme Packing Company, a Packers site for their thoughts on Randall.
Acme's report was that Randall started the season very poorly to the point of being benched in week five, but they stated that Randall rebounded from the benching with strong play in the second half in notching all of his interceptions for the season.
Randall was drafted by Green Bay when Alonso Highsmith and Eliot Wolf were there in player evaluation, so they know Randall and his abilities very well.
Assuming Randall is able to play like he did in the second half of 2017, Randall could be a starter with Jamar Taylor, if Jason McCourty is moved to safety or even a third corner if McCoury stays at the cornerback position.
Rumors are still flying that the Browns may not be fully finished trading yet, so John Dorsey has plenty of plans in the hopper.
I'd love to see Tyrann Mathieu or Earl Thomas come to the Browns as both players have been attached to trade rumors.
That ends the Browns news for now.
Back later with some boxing action!
