Boxing Challenge

The boxing weekend is slower than usual, but Top Rank does have one card on ESPN+ that has two solid bouts on Saturday.

The main event will pit Egid Kavaliauskas against Mikael Zewski in a ten welterweight tilt.
Kavaliauskas last fought Terence Crawford for Crawford's WBO title and did well for himself before Crawford began to land and wear Kavaliauskas down, stopping him in the ninth round.
Zewski has only one loss and he defeated undefeated Alejandro Davila in his last fight in November, but he appears to be cut below Kavaliauskas in this fight.

The co-feature is very interesting as featherweights Miguel Marriaga and Joet Gonzalez tangle in a classic crossroads bout.
Veteran Colombian contender Marriaga is a solid contender in the ten to fifteen range that is a solid gatekeeper for top contenders.
Marriaga has lost to only Vasyl Lomachenko, Nicholas Walters, and Oscar Valdez, all three champions, so he's well established as a difficult out unless you are the elite of the division.
Gonzalez was an impressive undefeated young fighter entering his most recent bout against Shakur Stevenson for the vacant WBO title in a grudge match that not even the crazy world of boxing has seen with Gonzalez's sister dating Stevenson and being estranged from the family.
Stevenson dominated Gonzalez, won all but one round and handed Gonzalez his first loss.
Give Gonzalez credit as Marriaga is a tough opponent for a young fighter coming off his first loss to face and we'll have to wait and see if Gonzalez could have used a lighter test in his return.

In the boxing challenge, I lead Ramon Malpica 104-98.
