Back and it is all my fault
Sorry.
That is all that I can say.
Sorry.
I got busy, lazy and uninspired all at once.
I will try to have some posts up over the day or two and catch up on things that I have opinions on.
A few quick notes to kick things off.....
Our good friends over at Bagofhealthandpolitics are back after a brief hiatus.
They have a new URL,but we have the new site on our links list,so check them out......
The Hagerstown Suns season ended yesterday with a loss to Lake County.
I will do a huge on the signing front soon, but wanted to add a few quick words.
First the long rumored deal is finished and for the 2010 season, the Lake County Captains will move to the Midwest League along with the new unnamed team in Bowling Green Kentucky that was formerly the Columbus Catfish.
This is disappointing to me as an Indians fan and autograph collector and will make various visits to Frederick to get signatures from the Kinston Indians almost mandatory for 2010.
But the Indians have been asking for this for a long time, but were forced to wait until a team came closer to Midwest territory for a pair of teams to make the jump.
It makes sense for both leagues, but that makes it no less disappointing.
Now the question is this-who will move into Lake County's spot as one of the three teams that visit the Muni the most??
The Suns also released their 2009 schedule.
A bit tardy, but quicker than last year and the sked looks pretty good.
Lakewood and Delmarva visit three times along with Lake County (down from 2008),West Virginia adds a visit from their one 08 stop as does Kannapolis and some new teams come to Hagerstown!
Rome,Augusta and Greenville return to the Hub City after various lengths of hiatus and Greensboro and Hickory will visit once as well....
A much improved slate and good work by the person that came up with it!!
A final note on Darnell Coles as he makes his (Likely) bow from town.
I was so impressed by Coles over the course of this season as both a manager and a person.
Darnell always had time to sign for people and swap talk for the fans and certainly is an up and coming star in the managing profession.
Coles should be moved up in class for 2009 after the excellent job that he did with the Suns.
The field boss even made time to come over to us and shake everyones hand before the game and thank us for being loyal fans and supporting the franchise.
A class act all the way and whoever replaces him has HUGE shoes to fill.
Thanks Darnell!
The silly season is upon us in a week or so as teams may look for new parent clubs.
From September 12th through the 15th,MLB teams can notify minor teams that they are free to talk with other cities and then for the next two weeks things start to change.
Hagerstown looks pretty safe with the Nationals as the poor facilities at the Muni makes it unappealing to most other than Washington for its proximity.
The Pirates have locked up three of their teams already as AAA Indianapolis is signed through 2012 and AA Altoona and short season State College are under deals that run to 2010 already.
Hickory and Lynchburg have deals that expire on Sept 12th.
Lynchburg looks pretty safe as I cannot imagine the Pirates leaving the Carolina League unless Lynchburg wants to look elsewhere.
Hickory could be safe, but a dark horse could be a move to West Virginia and Charleston.
This would bring the team closer to Pittsburgh and a return of the Pirates to the city that housed Pittsburgh teams in the 70's and 80's.
Hope to be back later with more Pirates and later in the week with Browns and Seahawks previews,
