At least the field goal was good

The Pittsburgh Pirates didn't look to be a lock at Miller Park, where they haven't won since the Bull Moose party was running in presidential elections, but with one of their better two hurlers on the mound in Zach Duke had a better chance than most nights recently.
That still didn't work out as Duke was pounded for eight runs over just four innings in another brutal beating at the hands of the Brewers 17-3.
Duke drops to 2-2 on the season with the defeat.
The series continues tonight at eight with Jeff Karstens making his season debut against Randy Wolf..

Pirate Hooks

1) As bad as Duke was,the duo of Octavio Dotel and Brendan Donnelly were worse, allowing nine runs between them in the eighth inning alone!
These are your veteran late inning guys?

2) Stat of the day-aging and light hitting catcher Gregg Zahn finishing the day with four hits and five RBI.

3) Jeff Karstens?
Not that there is any better alternative, but with Karstens back in town the beatings should continue...

4) Andy LaRoche seems to be the only Pirate hitting the ball well as he is 8 for his last 13 and is the only Pirate hitting above.300.
LaRoche is trying to make a case for staying at third despite Pedro Alvarez and his imminent arrival....

5) Andrew McCutchen was moved into the leadoff spot with Akinori Iwamura dropped in the lineup.
This is a move that I do like as McCutchen works best in the one spot with either Andy LaRoche or Iwamura in the second spot in the order..
