Sweeping up-Football edition

I'll move on to non-baseball cleanup as I attempt to finish things that I missed over the last few days.

Quick pick on tonight's Ohio State-Marshall game.
Ohio State 31-14.

I only was able to watch a small amount of the Browns loss to the Lions last week.
Not sure if I will even try to see tonight's games against the Bears that will see few starters in action.
My pre-season football usually works like this, excited for game one, average for game two and then blah for the final two.
Which is exactly why the NFL wants to reduce the exhibition schedule down to two games....

Cannot say I am thrilled with Ohio State and michigan being placed in opposite divisions, but keeping the last game of the season date salvages things somewhat.
The divisional setup is a disaster waiting to happen, ask the ACC how well the divisional setup works when you try to balance power on the date that you expand.
Geographical divisions might be unbalanced for a while, but it is always the best way for the long haul.

Absolutely stunned that the Seahawks would peddle Josh Wilson to the Ravens for a fifth rounder that could become a fourth.
Wilson was a good corner that combined with Marcus Trufant ranked in the top ten of corner tandems in the league.
Plus Wilson was an excellent kick returner and special teams player.
Pete Carroll and company have the right to shape the roster how they wish, but this move looks awful to me.
Over at Field Gulls,John Morgan writes exactly how I feel about the trade and more about some of the people that work in professional sports as well-as in they aren't as smart as they (and the media) think they are.
A terrific read, but be forewarned-strong language in the post.

This may sound crazy, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least,if BYU leaving the Mountain West conference was an unwritten agreement from some BCS schools to get them to play as an independent in order to obliterate any chance of the Mountain West getting into the BCS using their formula that the BCS never figured that any conference would come close to qualifying under.

BYU made a deal with ESPN for their games, but I still think that this is a huge gamble on BYU's part.
They had better be a 9 win or better team every year or their attractiveness as a TV draw will go under quickly.
I give the Cougars credit for quickly signing a six year contract to play Notre Dame,a school that they could quickly build a rivalry with.
Considering both teams being independents and being religious schools, this was a brilliant move by Brigham Young...

The Browns will be starting their own ring of honor such as most teams have in their home stadiums.
The first class will be the 16 hall of famers that were members of the Browns.....

This started as an sweep up of "everything else",but football gobbled up the entire post.
I will attempt to finish up either later or tomorrow with a long bullpen notes segment with the OSU-Marshall game.
