The Pirates lost both weekend games 5-3 and 5-0 in Florida to the Marlins and start a three game series in Houston tonight at 8:05.
Pirate Hooks
1) Saturday's game was not televised on either teams network.
I have no idea why,but maybe it was due to KC and the Sunshine Bands appearance???
2) The Pirates were dominated by Ricky Nolasco in Sunday's loss.
Nolasco was dominant and the Pirates were simply blown away.
Nolasco is one of those pitchers that just make you wonder why he isn't more consistently a winner as he has more than enough stuff to be an excellent pitcher in the league.
3) Nolasco reminds a lot of Javier Vasquez, another pitcher with all the tools, but yet never seems to be what his potential shows that he could be...
4) I know the argument is that the Marlins need a new stadium to compete, but every time that I watch a game from there,it seems to be a foul ball paradise-as in you could grab one from a section away because no one could be in a section at times..
5) Glad the red hat weekend is over?
Me too.
Bonus Rounds
Mike Hampton against the Pirates again tonight?
Uh oh.
Kudos to Freddy Sanchez for his selection to the All Star Game.
Third trip in four years for the second sacker...
Bullpen Notes
Battlin Bob takes on the Sunsations over at Grumblings and Rumblings.
And they thought I was rough???
Sorry to hear of the suicide of Boxing great Alexis Arguello.
Arguello was a three division champ when that was a real achievement and was serving as the mayor of Managua Nicaragua at the time of his death.
Look for a Forgotten Champions on Arguello coming up in the future.
A player that I have always liked, but never seemed to get a chance might get one as Scott Hairston was traded by San Diego to Oakland today for two minor league pitchers.
I had hoped for years that the Pirates might trade for Hairston, but the always sharp Billy Beane recognizes value when he sees it.
