Reviewing the tape-Just another wasted day

The Cleveland Browns suffered another embarrassing loss on Sunday, this one to the Chicago Bears 30-6.
The Browns drop to 1-7 with the defeat in Chicago and take this week off before returning to the field on Monday November 16th for a home game against Baltimore....

Brownie Bits

1) The defense played reasonably well,I thought.
I mean for the Browns anyway.
There were still way too many missed tackles and big plays allowed, but the Browns defense held the Bears three times to field goals after drives and allowed two touchdowns, which considering the amount of time that they spent on the field was really not that bad...

2) Have to love the spirit of Rob Ryan for going face to face with Jay Cutler late in the game.
Ryan's defense surely has its flaws, but unlike the offense, the effort is not among them for the most part.
It is no wonder that Ryan is the top choice of the fans to be the interim coach,if Eric Mangini would get the axe before the seasons end.

3) Not sure why Brady Quinn was sent into the game with three minutes to go and down by 24 points.
Quinn went three and out,but if the point was to try Quinn again, why did Mangini wait so long until the game truly was out of reach?
I say this all the time,I am not a Quinn booster, but it sure seems like the Browns are setting him up to fail and I cannot find any reason to do so.

4) Jamal Lewis claimed after the game that this is going to be his last season.
If that indeed is the case and Lewis is speaking the truth instead of from emotion, the Browns need to make Jerome Harrison the main back and Chris Jennings needs a few carries as well.
Just like in the Brady Quinn case, the Browns need to know about these player, whether it is Eric Mangini running the team or someone else....

5) The Browns were able to rush the passer for the first time all season with four sacks, but the most notable pressure was Kamerion Wimbley (who did have one sack) and his late helmet to helmet hit on Jay Cutler in the third quarter.
Count on a five digit fine from the NFL office on that hit.

6) The Browns passing game just isn't working.
Some of that is Derek Anderson's inaccurate passing, some is lack of time to throw the ball and the final portion is his receivers not getting open/running wrong routes.
Mohammed Massaqoui gets open and Anderson makes bad throws, but almost as often the ball ends up one way and Massaqoui the other.
Poor communication.I wish I could add more but it isn't tough to figure out...

7) I criticized Kenyon Coleman last week, but he did play well, especially in the first half when he sacked Jay Cutler, batted down a ball and had another tackle for loss.

8) Chansi Stuckey caught his first pass in the loss.
The 11 yard gain was the only ball thrown to him.
Yay.

9) More news on the Cleveland "Mildcat".
Josh Cribbs lined up a few times in the formation, but didn't throw and sadly once, just handed the ball to Jamal Lewis, who ran up the middle (sigh).
I wish I had the fire to complain about this, but you know....

10) I thought this team would be bad,but to be to the halfway point and put up these pathetic numbers-five offensive touchdowns,no touchdowns by any wideout and no rushing touchdowns by a running back.
Offensive is the word for sure!

11) Want a note on the Browns bad luck?
They wait weeks for Phil Dawson to get healthy,he gets one kick all day (an extra point) and it gets blocked.

12) Want to know the one thing that I fear?
The Browns finish the season against three bad teams (Kansas City,Oakland and Jacksonville),run the table or at least win two of three and Eric Mangini snows Randy Lerner into thinking the "process" is progressing and gets an extra year of this mess......

13) I hate Chicago's orange jerseys.
