Impotent offense drops Devils

One night after allowing seven goals on home ice to the Washington Capitals, the ailing Philadelphia Flyers entered Newark, held the New Jersey Devils to just 14 shots and walked out of Newark with a 1-0 win over the Devils.
Martin Brodeur finished the night with 20 saves as only a redirected shot by Brandon Schenn in the first period changed the scoreboard for either team.
The loss snapped a two game Devils winning streak and New Jersey hits Minnesota today for a meeting with a certain former captain....

Hell Raisers.

1) 14 shots.
Anemic and pathetic against a team that allowed seven goals the night before.
The aggressiveness that saw an improved output against Boston and Tampa Bay disappeared against a rival and the goodwill that was started to build around the team dissipated in one night.

2) Some might look at the absence of Travis Zajac with an ankle injury and Patrik Elias, who went out in warmups after an upper body injury and blame that-I won't.
Sure, the loss of those two hurt, but not to the point of that big of a shot loss.
Face it-this was one crappy performance.

3) The only goal was no fault of Marty Brodeur's-just a deflection, those things happen and Brodeur did stand tall on a few shots in the third period, but Philadelphia didn't do anything special.
Just two bad teams and someone had to win.

4) Michael Ryder missed the net twice on decent opportunities with one sliding wide and another smacking a post and Adam Henrique went wide once, but the Devils didn't exactly swarm the net....

5) Power play=Awful.
Five man advantages and just three shots with only the above mentioned Ryder's chance a good one.

6) Jaromir Jagr played well and seemed to be the only Devil to NOT dump and chase.
Jagr carried the puck into and tried to make things happen, which was a rarity Saturday night.

One bad night,I tried to be positive, but there just was not enough to be nice about..

I may try to get back later...

Sorry to hear you lost your money like that.It really was a lackluster game by both teams determined by one lucky bounce.
