Gorzelanny makes one bad pitch and it costs him the win

Tom Gorzelanny made one mistake in the 1st inning of an otherwise sparkling outing.
However Alfonso Soriano deposited the mistake in the stands and that was all Jason Marquis needed as the Cubs beat the Pirates 1-0.
Gorzelanny went seven innings and only allowed the 1 run.
He is fast becoming our premier lefty starter as he has pitched far better than Zach Duke thus far.
So much for spring training performance,as he was awful in Bradenton.

Did you notice other than Ryan Doumit,no Buc that plays regularly has a batting average above Jason Bay's .266?
Ian Snell and Gorzelanny have been excellent for the most part, yet the anemic hitting gives them both records that are less than they deserve.

The series concludes today at 2;20 at Wrigley.
Paul Malholm for Pittsburgh vs Carlos Zambrano for the Windy City reps.

Random Ramblings

Anyone see the Washington Nationals commercials with the Presidential statues yet?
Funny stuff.

I know that most of the pub from Indianapolis is about the numbers of Bryan Bullington, but to me I am more impressed by those of John Van Benschoten.
Compare them and see if you agree.

Forgot to mention Orioles prospect Brandon Erbe yesterday.Brandon is always accommodating and if the Orioles can avoid the temptation of rushing him (they never seem to resist this with young pitchers),he could be their long-term ace.

Michael Moore is facing an investigation from the treasury dept. for taking people to Cuba for his upcoming film "Sicko".
Moore takes on the health care industry in the film.
I am anxious to see the film because of the topic, but I realize Moore has his biases on the lefty side,so I will reserve judgement for now.

Thanks to Charlie over at Bucs Dugout for uncovering this tidbit on Andrew McCutchen.
McCutchen nailed a 500 (Yes,500) foot homer for Altoona vs the Erie SeaWolves.
What a colossal shot that must have been!

Plus,a shout out to Wilbur Miller and his Pirate top 30 prospects grade thus far.
They can be found here.

Forgot to mention the arrival of the Bob Carpenter's scorebook.
Words cannot say enough about the quality of the book.
It is listed to the right under the links section.
Check it out!
