Random Ramblings

Slow news day and with doing a lot of Forgotten Superstars in hiatus, lets do some Random Ramblings to sweep some things up.

The puck drops for real tonight at the Rock as the Devils kick the season off against the Islanders.
On paper, this looks like a mismatch, but the Islanders owned the Devils last year and the difference in lost points to a cellar dweller cost the Devils the Atlantic Division title.
Hopefully, the Devils can establish things early this year that last season was an aberration.

Former Pirate pitcher Bruce Dal Canton died at his home from esophageal cancer in Carnegie Pa this week.
The knuckleballer pitched for the Pirates,Royals and Braves from 1967-77 and spent several years in the Atlanta system as a pitching coach in the minors, the last nine with Myrtle Beach.
We met Dal Canton on a few occasions and he was always accommodating and had time for a word or two-a very nice man.
In hindsight,I should have realized something was wrong when Dal Canton was not with the Pelicans when we saw them in Wilmington late last season.
Dal Canton was 66.

Looks like Kellen Winslow could be out for the Browns Monday matchup vs the Giants.
The Browns say the tight end is 50/50 for the game after being hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.
Winslow is type of guy that toughs things out,but will likely be well below par.

The Seattle Seahawks were able to fix a mistake after the Colts cut running back Justin Forsett and re-signed the 7th round draft pick to the practice squad.
Seattle released Forsett after the first week loss to Buffalo and the Colts pounced on him on waivers.
The Seahawks also signed quarterback Travis Lulay to the practice squad and made room with the releases of running back Matt Lawrence and wideout Trendon Shelton.

The Pirates received a piece of good news when the knee condition of Brandon Moss was not as bad as feared and was able to be corrected with arthroscopic surgery.
The difference?
Moss being ready for spring training instead of missing some regular season action.

The 2-5 Ashland Arrows travel to Mansfield tonight for a game against the Tygers at one of the neatest high school fields around in Arlin Field.
The Arrows need to win out to finish at .500.

For those of you that enjoy following Hockey prospects,Hockeys Future is a super site and here is their preview of the Lowell Devils and their prospects for the upcoming year.
The Devils top farm team seems to have a few more players with promise than the last few editions.

Back tomorrow with Devils-Islanders,OSU preview and more.
