Suns zap Power and more on Diego Corrales

In our lead story, Former IBF Jr. Lightweight and WBC Lightweight champ Diego Corrales died in a motorcycle accident late Monday night.
Corrales ran into the back of a car while driving at high speed, he was wearing a helmet, but it was not enough to save him.

Diego Corrales may be remembered as this generation's most exciting fighter.
He won many, lost some, but always emptied his gas tank in the ring.
His two fights over the WBC Lightweight title with Jose Luis Castillo (I have them on DVD)were easily the most savage battles of the last 10 years.
Plus his two fights with Joel Casamayor were action fights as well, probably the only two Casamayor has ever had and, in addition, he basically ruined the career of Acelino Freitas.

Corrales had his downside, some out of the ring problems and his loss to Floyd Mayweather in a Jr. Lightweight title unification battle did not exactly cover him in glory.
And his recent fight last month vs Joshua Clottey was a beating, that most hoped he would retire from.
In an ill-advised move, Corrales moved from 135 lbs to 147, basically skipping an entire division to fight a top 10 Welterweight in Corrales' 1st fight at that weight.

Corrales seemed to be a man that always seemed to be searching for the next thing to make his life complete.
His interviews certainly gave me that impression, let's hope he can now find the peace that he was looking for.

The Hagerstown Suns tonight defeated the West Virginia Power 5-2.
Debuting Suns pitcher Justin Jones threw 6 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits.
Jones seemed to be more of a finesse pitcher, but I look forward to seeing him again.
The Suns nickel and dimed their way to the runs by scoring single runs in 5 different innings.
Justin Maxwell(6th) and Leonard Davis (4th) each hit homers for Hagerstown.
Maxwell's was particularly impressive as it was to the always different left field at Municipal Stadium.

Tonight was teacher bobblehead giveaway night (wow) and Italian night.
I like Italian night because they play Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin music all night between innings!
Good job Suns!
See, I can tell them when they do something right!

Pirates and Cubs are tied 3-3 in the 11th, but I must get some sleep.
Will drop in later tomorrow with more on the Pirates-Cubs game and on our trip to Frederick to check out the Kinston Indians visit to Harry Grove Stadium to take on the Keys.
