The arrogant one gets the axe

Happy new year to all!

The arrogant one is unemployed after the Baltimore Ravens fired Brian Billick yesterday.
It had become apparent that the Raven front office had to make a choice between Billick and some of their stars and Billick was the easier person to dismiss.
The supposed offensive genius was never able to live up to his reputation on the offensive side of the ball,as it seemed every year or two that Billick would bring in a new quarterback that he would tutor to prominence.
Usually it was a guy that was nearing the end,but his belief in Kyle Boller turned out to be a mistake as well.
I am not a fan of Billick and his routine was likely stale, but I found the Ravens statement at the press conference to be mildly astonishing.
They expect to make a Super Bowl run in the next few years???
Their core players are aging and deteriorating every season and they seem to be deluding themselves.
Don't cry too much for Billick,he will be back as a head coach somewhere by at least 2009.
The rumor that is flying as Billick's replacement is Bill Cowher and wouldn't that be fitting!
I would love to see the overrated Cowher fail as the boss of my least favorite team and get to see the Steeler fans reaction to boot,as their beloved Coach Cowher goes to a division rival........

Bullpen Notes

Slow day,but Battlin Bob sends us two links.
One is that former Hagerstown Suns Director of Stadium Operations Mike Showe is now taking over as GM for the Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian League.
I never had too much interaction with Showe, but some people that I hold in high regard have good things to say about him.

The other is more on the new Pulaski Mariners.
It appears to be a one year deal, but look for it to actually be a three year deal.
Paperwork likely made a one year deal to keep the Mariners in line with the other minor league deals that expire in 2008.

Normally I am glued to the box on New Years Day for Bowl games, but this years games aren't doing much for me.
I will be watching the NHL Winter Classic though.
That looks like it will be a cool game to watch and anyone can see it as it will be televised by NBC.

Until tomorrow
