Random Ramblings

Time for a little thing that we call Random Ramblings...........

From the self-congratulation dept.-The last ten days has seen us setting records for hits.
Why this has begun,we don't know, but we are certainly pleased about it!

John Kerry has decided to endorse Barack Obama.
We weren't surprised by this endorsement, but figured that Kerry might wait until just before Super Tuesday to do so.
Kerry and former running mate John Edwards weren't close behind the scenes and disagreed on many things during the 2004 election including Kerry's reluctance to challenge the notorious "Swift Boat" ads and on challenging the questionable decision in Ohio.
I don't think the Kerry nod brings much to Obama other than the 3 million email addresses in Kerry's files from the 2004 election and winces from seeing the man that gave us 4 bonus years of George Bush.......

No word currently on Mike Dukakis or Walter Mondale's current thoughts on candidate endorsement............

Neal Huntington sees the roster as mostly set.
This is crummy because this team is not good enough to contend and/or the Pirates failed to add to a less than great farm system.
I know some say that you don't want to sell low on Jason Bay and I can see that, but if he starts fast, the Pirates will have some delusions on contending and perhaps not do anything..........

Browns Town thoughts include the extension for Romeo Crennel.
The Browns improved this season and I certainly am in favor of retaining Crennel, but an extension seems to be premature.
Let's not forget the years before under his guidance.
The Browns didn't exactly play a great schedule this year as they defeated just one team with a winning record and the slate will be far tougher next year.
Not ripping Crennel, just saying the extension might be better off coming after a solid 2008......

GM Phil Savage also is talking two year extension for Jamal Lewis, which is also too long.
No problems here with a one year bringback, but 2 is questionable for a 29 year old back.
Backs can lose it very quickly, look at the demise of Shaun Alexander for example.

I do like the proactive thinking of talking to Derek Anderson before others can talk to him in late February.
The cost keeping him can do nothing but go up when other teams get involved,so this is smart by Savage and the Browns..

As a casual golf fan (at best) I didn't see the Kelly Tilghman comments on Tiger Woods, but the punishment of a two week suspension fits the crime.
Using the word "lynching" was less than bright, but if she had said "Jump him in a back alley" instead of "lynch him in a back alley",I don't think anyone would have seen it....
Like that many were watching the Golf Channel anyway..............
She apologized,Woods accepted it gracefully and she was suspended.
Things should die down,right??
Nope,Here comes Al Sharpton to stick himself into things and make demands..
Just one question on Al Sharpton and then I am finished giving this glory hound his few lines of publicity here..
Just WHO decided that this guy was THE guy to ask about anything involving the African-American community?????

The New Jersey Devils return to action tonight against the Wolfpack at Reynolds Coliseum tonight at 7.
Coverage here tomorrow.

Oil drops in price again due to "low demand".
Could people be waking up and starting to hit back at big oil by driving a little less???
We all need to get to work and get around for fun,but just a small decline would hit everyone from the oil companies to speculators to OPEC....

Johnny Grant passed away at the age of 84.
Guess there will be no more "Johnny Grant" parties for Marvin Milkes to break up..............

On the signing front
Signatures by mail from
Hall of Famer George Kell,Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr,Pirate pitcher Zach Duke,Former Marlins manager Jack McKeon and Prospects Todd Frazier,Travis Ishikawa and David Haehnel.
Former Packer wideout Carroll Dale signed as did well traveled goalie Don Beaupre and for me the biggest catch-former Devil and US Olympian Mark Johnson......

Kerry is a bigger deal than you say. It sends a message to the inside the beltway crowd. The elders in the party (rightly) fear a Clinton nomination and a down ballot death because of motivated right-wingers. Kerry's the first party elder to come out and openly say what many are thinking. Also of note George Miller endorsed Obama. A very obscure name to those outside to beltway, but Rep. Miller is extremely close to Speaker Pelosi, and it sends a message about what she thinks...because he wouldn't be doing this if Pelosi wasn't OK with it.

The question remains, do Kennedy and Gore endorse too? Risks for both of them. But staring at a split party, I think the time as come to take the risk and endorse. I don't think they will, but I still hope it'd happen.

As for Edwards, I think he handled this graciously. And I also think that he understands that Obama has a better shot of winning, and that he would be endorsing Obama if he was in Kerry's position.

I see your point, but Kerry brings supporters that for the most part are in the Obama camp already.
I certainly see no downside to to a Kerry endorsement, but not a huge upside either, with the exception of maybe beginning to earn some "super delgate" support..

Did'nt see the Miller endorsement, but I agree on the value of his as well...

At Ted Kennedy's age,he does'nt have much to risk! (LOL).I believe he will go Obama's way with Kerry.

Gore will likely stay above the battle, keeping his issues and his standing with whomever wins.
And maybe in the remote chance of a split convention-be available..........

Fair points. But Kerry also has the best voter file in the party. That also helps.

And Jim Clyburn's making some noise too.

I think what you're seeing here is the party elders realizing just how bad a Clinton nomination would be, and just how much potential an Obama nomination has. It's a fascinating dynamic.
