Justice prevailed after an awful call allowed a Philadelphia Flyer goal in a shootout as Patrik Elias beat Sergei Bobrovsky to clinch the shootout,a 4-3 come from behind win and two badly needed points for the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to earn the huge win on the road.
Devils goals to Zach Parise (5),David Clarkson (4) and Adam Henrique (1).
New Jersey has this evening off before a battle back at the Rock against Winnipeg tomorrow evening....
Hell Raisers
1) Right off the bat and onto positive HR's after a needed win,Daniel Briere's shootout goal was no good and should have been disallowed.
The rules say that a player is not allowed to come to a complete stop and then shoot in the shootout.
Briere did that and I defy anyone to watch below and say that he did not.
That said,I am more ticked at the replay room in Toronto for not disallowing the goal than I am at Briere.
Why even bother to use replay,if you will not change anything??
2) Great game from Adam Henrique with his first NHL goal and an assist on the night.
Henrique looked strong and confident last night and looks like the type of player that will improve as he plays more often...
3) Ilya Kovalchuk left the game in the third period with a leg injury.
Fire and Ice is reporting that it is likely a pulled groin and Kovalchuk will be examined today to see how much time he may miss...
4) I criticized Bryce Salvador and he rebounded with his best game of the season.
I doubt we were the motivator, but Andy Greene being a healthy scratch may been a large boost to the improvement...
5) David Clarkson-NINE shots on goal, one into the net and the type of physical game that he is capable of.
A very nice stretch for Clarkson over the last few games and I am very pleased with his season thus far.
6) Zach Parise broke a scoring slump with one timer backhand into the net.
Hard to shoot, hard to explain, but pretty to see...
7) Penalty killing was excellent in the win as the Devils killed off five penalties without a goal.
Very important when the opponent ranks as one of the best with the man advantage...
