Henrique breakaways ground Jets in overtime

Adam Henrique made both of his shots on goal count as both found the back of the net,the latter in overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at the Rock.
Henrique's goals (2 and 3) both came on breakaways that came via sharp passes from Zach Parise and that was the difference in this one.
Patrik Elias scored the remaining New Jersey goal (6) in the victory that saw Martin Brodeur return to the net after a game off.
A great night all around as the Devils get the win and two points, yet the Jets still add a point to their total.
The Devils will be hosting Carolina Tuesday night before a home and home set against Washington on Friday and Saturday.
Yea..Beninati and Laughlin.Time to sharpen up that mute button......

Hell Raisers

1) One thing that we do know about Adam Henrique-he can bury the breakaway shot.
Sounds pretty simple, but the Devils have all too often had players that could not rap that shot home in one on one or even two on one consistently.
Henrique has a long way to go,but this game showed some promise in that facet of the game...

2) Martin Brodeur was much improved on the evening over his loss to Toronto.
The defense had something to do with that as they picked up their game around the net and the game tying goal by Winnipeg was set up by a uncalled hook on Anton Volchenkov which hindered him in reaching Jim Slater as he tied the game.

3) Two defenders earned their first points of the season with assists in the win as Mark Fraser assisted on a Henrique goal and Bryce Salvador assisted on the goal by Patrik Elias.
Any offense that one gets from those two is an added bonus.

4) Ilya Kovalchuk missed the game with the leg injury suffered in the win over Philadelphia.
Kovalchuk was not placed on the IR,so when he returns is still unknown.

5) The Quebec fans from the movement to get hockey back to Quebec City were in force for the game.
Good for them and here is hoping they can get a team back similar to Winnipeg.

6) I didn't mind the Jets road jersey and I think the logo is pretty sharp, but they do make me think of the Columbus uniforms a bit.
Not great, but good enough in my opinion....

Hope to be back more later with an inbox cleaning that will have lots of notes...
