Frederick beats Myrtle Beach,Dodgers whip Buccos.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Randy Wolf continued their dominance over the Pirates (like that is un-like any other team) by defeating Pittsburgh 5-4.
I missed the game due to being in Frederick,so I did not see any of the game.
Zach Duke lost again(2-6 on the season) as the much-heralded "return" to his old mechanics did not seem to improve him any,as he allowed 5 runs in 6 innings.
Pirates RBI went to Jason Bay,who had one on a solo homer (his 9th) and one on a double, while Chris Duffy had 2 RBI that he picked up on a triple.
This looked like a cool picture,so I used it as today's pic, even though the Pirates are using those awful V-8 uniforms again.
The Buccos will try again tonight vs the Scullys.
Ian Snell for the Pittsburghers vs Hong-Chih Kuo
for Los Angeles,in his initial start of the season...

I saw parts of the Frederick Keys-Myrtle Beach Pelicans double header last night.
I missed the first three innings of game 1,as I had to pick up a client and traffic around here gets worse every day and left after 5 innings of game 2,as I had to return to work for the evening.
But a few notes-Either both teams were tired or something else, because they were sloppy beyond belief.
When I left the park, the score was 9-9.
With a score like that, one would figure an abundance of hits, yet Myrtle Beach had 6 and Frederick 7.
Lots of walks and errors ,Elvis Andrus did homer and I did come away a bit impressed although when you consider his struggles at the bat and his age for the league,Atlanta might want to think about returning him to the Carolina League for at least the early part of next year.

Bullpen Notes

Another reason the Frederick Keys out-do the Hagerstown Suns.
Last night BB&T Bank had a "Night at the ballpark".The Suns do this type of stuff with businesses too,but BB&T gave away a lightweight personal cooler along with inflatable bats and lightweight foam baseballs for the kids.
The Suns clients usually stick to cardboard fans.
This is not always the Suns fault, but one more thing that shows how the Keys do things right and the Suns do it on the cheap.

When you read the above note, did it strike you that if you take away the beautiful ballpark, that the Pirates are the major league version of the Hagerstown Suns? Think about it and you will figure it out.

The Cleveland Cavaliers go for the kill tonight on the North Shore in Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons.
Good luck Cleveland!!

Lou Pinella is starting to lose control in Chicago.
Pinella is losing under high expectations and now his players are fighting in the dugout and he is blowing his stack at umpires........
He will certainly get suspended and things are looking more and more like this will not have an happy ending.
Sorry,Ryan.

Steve Kerr seems like a nice guy and maybe a fair announcer, but tell me what qualifies him to be the Phoenix Suns GM???

You all know my feelings on Tracy Littlefield, but I totally agree on the decision to move
Matt Capps to closer and return Gas Can Torres to the set-up role.
Torres has been ill-suited to close and if Capps is the future closer anyway and this is the situation you are in,it is a good move to shake things up.

Back tomorrow with Pirates-Dodgers and more!

Results on the last 2 rounds of Sickels's mock draft.

Austin Romine was still there in the 4th, so I took him, per your instructions. I was sorely tempted by LeMahieu, though.

In the fifth, I went with Connor Graham, a junior RHP out of Miami of Ohio. Kid's got some issues with conditioning and needs work on a third pitch, but he's got a good FB (sits around 93, spikes higher) and a lot of movement on his slider (some control issues there). He was on a strict pitch count, so he won't be as fried as some other college arms, and I think there's some upside here if he gets good instruction and works on the body (big frame, 6-6).

Hope that works out OK.

I would have understood on LeMathieu.
I should have mentioned him,but I figured he would be long gone.
I liked Connor Graham and had him on my board,so that is more than cool.
Thanks for the help!

He almost WAS long gone... the Tampa GM tried to take him in the fourth, but he'd waited too long and John had already made a different pick for him.

It's all good; I think Romine's a solid player, too.
