Pirates and Indians win,Rainy night in the Hub City

The Pirates grabbed a badly needed win over the Nationals in Washington 7-6.
B.P Chacon got the win (2-0) despite a less than stellar performance,as the Pirate offense pounded Washington starter Mike Bascik to build an early lead.
The Bucs had a huge night from Xavier Nady as Nady knocked 4 runs in with 3 of them coming on a bases clearing double in the 3rd inning.
Jack Wilson(3rd) and Ronny Paulino (5th) each bashed homers for the Buccos.
Matt Capps pitched the ninth for his 2nd save of the year.

C.C.Sabathia allowed just 5 singles in a shutout effort to lead the Indians to a 1-0 win over the Royals in Cleveland.
It was a good thing that Sabathia was so excellent, his team only backed him with Franklin Gutierrez's 1st homer of the season,so his margin of error was slim.
Sabathia improves to 9-1 on the year and tied John Lackey of the Angels for the league lead in wins.

The Lakewood Blue Claws waited out a rain delay in the 7th to defeat the Hagerstown Suns 6-5 at Municipal Stadium.
Justin Maxwell hit yet another long bomb for the Suns (13) and Marcos Cabral hit his 3rd of the season for Hagerstown as well.
Carl Henry Jr hit a long homer(8th) to left (the toughest part to hit homers at Municipal) for the visiting Blue Claws.
Henry is the son of former Kansas basketball star Carl Henry Sr.
The two teams hook em up in the series finale tonight in Hagerstown.

Tonight's pitching matchups
Pittsburgh-Zach Duke vs Washington-Micah Bowie
Kansas City-Brian Bannister vs Cleveland-Paul Byrd.

Bullpen Notes

Through the votes,e-mails and actual conversations,it is clear to me that the readers here want more Indian coverage.
So we will add more, please keep in mind that my actual opinions on the Tribe will be more numbers based than my stuff on the Pirates.
That is because when both teams play at the same time,I will be watching the Buccos.

The Yankees continue to watch money flushed down the toilet on Carl Pavano.
Elbow surgery-out for the year.
Nothing personal against Pavano, but isn't it tough watching bad things happen to bad people(YANKEES).

The Pirates recalled outfielder Rajai Davis from AAA Indianapolis.
Nothing against Davis, but don't the Bucs already have two current guys on the roster just like him in Chris Duffy and Nate McLouth???
and another one still at Indy in Nyjer Morgan???

But in good news,to bring Davis up,Humberto Cota was designated for assignment!
Cota will likely clear waivers (yeah, like anyone will claim Humberto Cota) and then be re-signed to catch for Indianapolis.
There he can be part of the washed up and light hitting catcher platoon with Einar Diaz.

Highly touted Reds pitching prospect Homer Bailey makes his long awaited debut Friday vs the Tribe. That may be a night that I cover Cleveland instead of Pittsburgh.
Bailey and local product Nick Adenhart were considered the pitching jewels of the 2004 draft class.

Seattle Seahawks released Kelly Herndon to make way for 2006 1st rounder Kelly Jennings and 2007 2nd rounder Josh Wilson.
Herndon is more of a nickel back ideally and with Seattle investing high picks at his position, this was just a matter of time.

Back later with all the games and on the signing front from the first Lakewood visit of the season.
