Quick post as I need to go to work soon.
The Hickory Crawdads dominated early and held on late for a 5-4 win over the Hagerstown Suns at snowy Municipal Stadium.
Hickory struck 1st on a long 2nd Inning Home Run from Jamie Romak(Why is he here,DL?)
to take a 1-0 lead.
Kris Watts singled home Eddie Prasch from 2nd in the 3rd inning to increase the lead to 2-0.
Romak scored again in the 4th on an error on Hagerstown 3B Jarrett Reinenger to move the lead to 3-0.
The score stayed that way until the 8th,as the Crawdads scored both Jim Negrych and Kent Sakamoto on an Eddie Prasch triple and Hickory led 5-0 after 7 and a half.
In the Hagerstown 8th,Basilio Alvarez struck out the 1st 2 Suns batters before a Chris Marrero single and a Brett McMillan walk.
Alvarez then struck out Justin Maxwell, but Maxwell reached 1st safely on a dropped 3rd strike.
It appeared to me that the umpire made a motion appearing to call the ball dead.
Catcher Kris Watts hesitated before throwing to 1st and Maxwell nipped the throw.
Hickory paid for that as Leonard Davis completed a 4 for 4 night by drilling a Alvarez fastball down the right field line for a Grand slam Homer to cut the lead to 5-4.
Kyle Pearson finished the 8th and retired the Suns in order in the 9th to nail down the victory.
Jared Hughes earned the win with 5 impressive shutout innings,Marco Estrada picked the L and Kyle Pearson grabbed the save.
I will try to add more tomorrow morning!
