Top 10 Cleveland Indians Prospects-Part 1
Since the Pirates are off today,I figured that I would complete the housecleaning by working on the Indians Top 10 prospects.
1)Adam Miller-SP: Miller bounced back from an injury plagued 2005 to become ,once again, the top Cleveland prospect.Adam touches 98 on the gun, uses 4 pitches for the strikes and has good mechanics.
Miller's power slider goes between 86-88 and likely his top pitch.
Miller is currently at AAA Buffalo.
I project Miller as an eventual # 1 starter and the replacement for C.C. Sabathia, when Sabathia leaves in free agency following the 2008 season.
2) Trevor Crowe-OF: Crowe is a switch hitting centerfielder in a system that has the best CF in baseball already in Grady Sizemore.
The Indians tried to shift Crowe to 2b in the Arizona Fall League, but once they obtained Josh Barfield, Crowe returned to the outfield.
From Arizona,Crowe has above average speed and OK power.I am not sure he has the power to play the corner spots in MLB,so his actual value to Cleveland may be a trading chip.
Trevor also signed a few cards in the mail for me from the AZ fall league
Crowe is currently at AA Akron
3)Chuck(Did you just call me Tom?) Lofgren-SP: Lofgren moved from a decent year in 05 at low A Lake County to a Dominating year at High A Kinston in o6.Chuck throws harder than many lefties as he can get close to the mid-90s.
He mainly is a fastball, change pitcher for now, although the Tribe has started work on adding a slider to his toolbox.
Lofgren is at AA Akron at this time.
4)Tony Sipp-RP: I do not like rating relievers this high. However,I have been a fan of Sipp's since I saw him at Lake County in 05.A power lefty that I seemed to like better than most,Sipp projects to be the home grown closer that Cleveland has wanted for years.A hard thrower with a good slider,I think Sipp could be the closer in Cleveland by seasons end,if circumstances require it.Sipp is usually in the low 90's with his heater.
Tony is currently at AAA Buffalo
5) John Drennen-OF; Drennen is most known for his homer off Roger Clemens in a Clemens minor league start last season.
Drennen basically will be carried by his bat,as his speed and defense are about average.
The lefty swinger should have no problems hitting for power for a smaller player.
His arm is fair at best,so it is likely to be left field as his future position.
Drennen had a great year at Lake County and spent a little time at Kinston last year.
John is just 20 and the Tribe is in no rush at all.
Drennen signed 3 cards for me last season and spoke to Rachel and I for a few minutes.
He had trouble signing due to a hand injury the night before and still signed for us.Nice guy.
Drennen has returned to High A Kinston for 2007.
